DJOKOVIC WINS ROME

Serbian Novak Djokovic won the AMS Rome after defeating Swiss Stanislas Wawrinka 4-6, 6-3, 6-3

Novak Djokovic won the Masters Series Rafael Nadal won the last three years; this season, the holder champion was defeated in second round.

The Serbian player’s path to the final started with a direct access to second round, and profiting from Nicolas Almagro and Radek Stepanek’s respective walkovers.

Despite he rested more than Wawrinka, Djokovic had a mediocre performance (he had 25 unforced errors), but he managed to win the title since the Swiss did it worst.

Wawrinka reached the final as easily as the Asutralian Open champion; he routed Marat Safin, Andy Murray and James Blake, in addition to benefit from Andy Roddick’s walkover.

The Swiss player won the first set 6-4 after breaking Djokovic’s serve in the fifth game; he kept this advantage until the Serbian broke his serve in the fifth game of the second set.

Djokovic finally won the second set 6-3, got the same score in the third set to win his second Masters Series title in the season.
