U.S. TO MEET SPAIN
World No. 6 Andy Roddick put defending champions the U.S.A. into the semifinals of the Davis Cup World Group after defeating France's Paul-Henri Mathieu 6-2, 6-3, 6-2 on Sunday in Winstom-Salem

The 25-year-old Texan fired 15 aces and converted five of 13 break points to seal the victory and an unbeatable 3-1 lead after 1hr., 37mins.
It was Roddick's ninth straight victory in Davis Cup play, having also defeated Michael Llodra on Friday in the first rubber. He improves to 20-2 in home Davis Cup matches and 29-9 overall.
Roddick, who is No. 5 in the ATP 2008 Race, is a two-time titlist this season, lifting the trophies in San Jose (d. Stepanek) and Dubai (d. Lopez). last week he reached the semifinals in Miami, having defeated World No. 1 Roger Federer for only the second time (2-15) in his career in the quarterfinals.
World No. 12 Mathieu, who held two match points against James Blake in the second rubber on Friday, slips to 4-8 in Cup singles play.
James Blake closed Davis Cup quarterfinal action as he came back from a set deficit to defeat fellow Top 10 player Richard Gasquet, 6-7(4), 6-4, 6-4 in one hour and forty minutes.
