THE CHALLENGE
Ninth ATP Masters Series has a similar draw to Mutua Madrileña Masters Madrid –great stars are on the top to win the title and they make their debut tomorrow on second round.
Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic must face a new challenge: impose their authoriry as the top-three players in the world after having been defeated by David Nalbandián in Madrid.
Althought the Argentine seemed quite weak in Basel –Wawrinka upseted him on first round-, last Monday overcame Spaniard Nicolas Almagro with a 6-4, 6-4 quick victory. Next up for Nalbandián is Moyá.
Also fell Feliciano López, former no.1 Juan Carlos Ferrero, Albert Montañés and Fernando Verdasco, leaving Spaniards’ hopes to Carlos Moyá, Tommy Robredo, David Ferrer and Rafael Nadal.
On the other hand, local idols Mahut and Gilles Simon will meet James Blake and Tommy Robredo respectively, while Federer, Nadal and Djokovic will face Croatian Karlovic, Italian Filippo Volandri and French Fabrice Santoro.
