DAVID FERRER’S STANDSTILL

Tha Valencia resident, in search of Shanghai’s qualification, has fallen in his first match in the two last tournaments he played: Madrid and Basel.

Feliciano López first and Agustin Calleri later knocked out the current no.6 in the ATP Race to Shanghai, David Ferrer. The Argentine won the match with a 6-4, 7-6 victory and left Ferrer’s chances for qualification determined by other players’ performance.

No. 2 seed Fernando González passed over Haenhel and defending champion Roger Federer recovered from his failure against Nalbandián in Madrid beating the German Michael Berrer (6-1, 3-6, 6-3). The Chilean is trying to end the year between the best eight players in the world and Roger doesn’t want to leave the top of the ranking, exclusively his since 2004.

Meanwhile, most players are resting and training until the last ATP Masters Series in the year. Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic or Tommy Haas are looking forward to Paris and others like Davydenko, after his last withdrawal in Madrid, have a meeting before: St. Petersburg.
