David Ferrer is the first player to qualify for semifinals in Japan. This is the first time after 16 matches that Ferrer beats compatriot Feliciano López.

Many people say David Ferrer is doing his best. He is about to finish his best season and the Spaniard keeps on winning matches, adding points. David himself thinks he’s at his best moment, and is hopeful to be able to qualify for the last tournament in the year, the one that collect the best 8 players of the season, the tennis Masters Cup Shanghai.

After winning 2 titles -Auckland and Bastad- and reaching 5 semifinals, Ferrer has a 53-19 season record and now beats countryman Feliciano López after a 6-4, 6-4 victory.

Later in the day, Karlovic got his ticktet for semis, too, after defeating Leyton Hewitt with a 7-6(5), 7-6(6) tough victory and playing with a stop due to the rain. The French Richard Gasquet qualifies too knocking out Schuetter.

The last match was the one between the Spaniard Tomas Berdych and Fernando Verdasco, 2nd and 8th favourites. The Czech was able to beat the player from Madrid after 2 hours and a half with a 7-6, 4-6, 7-5 victory.
