Spanish ‘Armada’ advance easily to thrid round of the AIG Japan Open Tennis Championships with the unexpected victory of Ivan Navarro over thirteen seed Sam Querrey.
 David Ferrer, Feliciano López, Fernando Verdasco and Ivan Navarro starred quick matches which took them to thrid round, looking to move upward the draw and be able to play among the best 8 players of the tournament in quarterfinals.Top-seeded world no. 8 Ferrer improves now to 52-19 for the season after his victories in Auckland and Bastad and his first Grand Slam semifinal in the US Open before in the season. Next up for Ferrer will be the American Spadea, who defeated Roitman of Argentina. The player from Toledo Feliciano López overpassed Robert Kendrick to meet Tursunov and Fernando Verdasco did the same over the German Zverev to face Gimelstob. Few people thought that the thirteenth favourite of the tournament would fall in second round... The guilty has a name: Ivan Navarro, the surprise of the event. He will play Hewitt to have a place in the quarterfinals. Meanwhile, Berdych, Dancevic and Gasquet defeated their foes and Nieminen was upset by the Serbian Pashanski. |
