TURSUNOV CAPTURES BANGKOK TITLE

Sixth-seeded Tursunov takes second title of the year after defeating Benjamin Becker 6-2, 6-1 in the Thailand Open final Sunday.

It was his fourth ATP final and the Russian improves to 3-1. This match meant for the world no.30 a quick trip after overcoming the Spaniard Fernando Verdasco in the semis (7-6, 4-6, 6-4).

Becker turned into the surprise of the tournament. To reach the final he had to defeat third seed Tomas Berdych and fifth seed Carlos Moyá, and he found no big difficulties to beat them.

Therefore, the final match was not his best match of the tournament, because Tursunov managed to control the 57-minute match. Becker could won just three games and the Russian converted four of 12 break point opportunities and saved all three break chances on his own serve.

“The final looked pretty one-sided if you look at the statistics, but I did a lot to achieve that”, said Tursunov, who achieved Indianapolis title last July. The feeling’s different for the German Benjamin Becker: "I would have liked to have won the title, but you can't have everything. Dmitry played too good for me today”.
