BANGKOK: RODDICK WITHDRAWS
Top-seeded players Berdych and Haas carry on to reach the title while the Spaniard Fernando Verdasco qualifies for quarterfinals. Andy Roddick had to leave yesterday due to an injury.
“I came straight here (on Tuesday) to practice but had to stop, I hurt the bottom part of my foot and spent the rest of yesterday getting treatment”, Roddick said. “It felt okay, but when I was in my room, and I hurt it again”. Bangkok’s draw has lost its main stars: world no. 2 y no. 3 Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic, Andy Roddick and the local favorite Srichaphan.
This fact become Czech Tomas Berdych and German Tommy Haas into the top-seeded players and the favourites to win the title and the prize. World no.10 Berdych overcame his foe Wachiramanowong in just 47 minutes with a fast 6-3, 6-0. It was more difficult for the eleventh player in the world to beat Spadea. He finnaly got to the victory after a 4-6, 6-4, 6-1 match. Next up for them will be compete for reaching quarterfinals.
The only Spanish player left in the Thailand Open is Fernando Verdasco. His quick trip in the tournament has taken him to quarterfinals and let him to win every match in just two sets, except the last one against Dancevic (3-6, 6-3, 6-4).
Today the Thailand Open will choose the best eight players in the tournament with chances to get to the final.
