DAVIS CUP FINALS

The United States will face defending champion Russia at home thanks to Roddick’s strong serve.

It was a tough loss for Germany in the semifinals against Russia. Igor Andreev and Mikhail Youzhny pulled their country to the final with a 3-2 victory. World no.17 Youzhny, who replaced Nikolay Davydenko due to his injury, commited 42 unforced errors against Petzschner but achieved the victory after a 6-4, 6-4, 3-6, 6-3 match. Andreev got the decissive point over Philipp Kohlschreiber with a 6-3, 3-6, 6-0, 6-3 victory and gave Russia an opportunity to defend its Davis Cup title. “Luck was on my side,” said Andreev. “This was great. Davis Cup is special for me, all people and the country because they support us. I like to play for my country, it’s very special.”

It was easier for the United States to qualify over Sweden (4-1). World no.5 Andy Roddick starred a great match after a 6-2, 7-6, 6-4 fast victory over Jonas Bjorkman, and James Blake made the final score 4-1 overcoming Simon Aspelin 6-1, 6-3 in just 45 minutes. "If you'd told me ahead of the match that I'd beat Jonas in three sets I think I might have questioned your sanity”, joked Roddick.

Davis Cup finals will take place between November 30th and December 2nd.
