DAVIS CUP: THE CHALLENGE
Federer and Djokovic keep their eyes on defending his nation’s honour while prepairing the play-off round match taking place today.
The last two editions Roger Federer’s participation was limited just to the playoff round. On both occasions he played (singles and doubles) took Switzerland to victories over United Kingdom and Serbia. This time, world no.1 will lead his country against host nation Czech Republic on indoor carpet in Prague.
Djokovic’s aim is different –he’s got the chance to qualify his country to the World Group after almost 20 years’ time. The Serbian will try to do his best against Australia. “We all know how good Australia is in the Davis Cup, how good their history is, and of course Lleyton is coming”, said Djokovic. “But it’s going to be a lot of people, a lot of support. Support is one of the things which is most important in the Davis Cup because Davis Cup is very unique, it’s different, it’s unpredictable, anything can happen”.
Next matches will meet Austria against Brazil, Peru against Belarus, Great Britain against Croatia and Slovak Republic against Korea Rep.
