GONZÁLEZ ACHIEVES BEIJING

Fernando González and Tommy Robredo competed Beijing’s final, both in search of as many points as possible to qualify for Tennis Masters Cup Shanghai.


Top-seeded Nikolay Davydenko fallen, everybody was looking forward to seeing this final. The final which adds 175 points to the winner, and this amount can become decisive by this time of the year.
This is not the best season for both players, and this is the reason why they are now trying to do their best. “The last two Masters Series will determine who will make Shangai”, said Robredo, “so it will be important for me to play well there."

The beginning of the match was agressive and impressive due to Fernando Gonzalez way of playing. It was not one, nor two... but five the number of times in which the Chilean broke the serve to his opponent. The Spaniard finally wise up to the situation and won the second set, but it was not enough because Gonzalez didn’t give up and took the decissive set in a match concluded after one hour and 45 minutes of play (6-1, 3-6, 6-1). Gonzalez was playing his third ATP final of the year, having finished runner-up at the Australian Open and at the ATP Masters Series event at Rome. "In the two finals I had lost this year I ran into the best player”, Gonzalez excused himself. “At the Australian Open it was Federer and in Rome it was Nadal”.

Beijing’s win elevated Gonzalez to No.7 in the ATP 2007 Race to Shanghai. Tommy Robredo stays as the eleventh best player of the year.
