CHINA OPEN: NO SURPRISES
The favourite players to achieve the China Open title make progress with no difficulties: Davydenko, González, Robredo, Baghdatis and Ljubicic focus on their next matches at the Asian tournament.
Player’s main worry is to get as much points as posible to qualify for Tennis Masters Cup, that will take place next November in Shangai.
Second-seeded Fernando González demonstrated to be in supreme form against Capdeville (6-1, 6-2) overcoming Chilean compatriot in just 52 minutes. It was also easy for the defending champion Marcos Baghdatis to defeat the Serbian player Pashanski after a 6-4, 6-4 victory.
Ljubicic and Robredo’s situation is quite different: they both are looking forward to getting the best punctuation in order to move upward the ranking and qualify for the Shangai event, which rounds the best eight players in the season up. Actually they are currently No. 10 and No.12 respectively in the ATP 2007 Race.
Tommy Robredo, who made a trip to promote Tennis Masters Cup Shangai last week, booked his place in the Chinese tournament and passed 1st round after beating the German Gremelmayr for a 6-2, 6-4 easy win. Spanish third-seeded has fallen from the top 10 for the first time since May because of his poor summer season on hard courts. “It was a good match”, said Robredo. “You normally don’t know how you are going to feel”. On the other hand, the fourth-seeded Croat step up his bid to Shangai playing a formidable match against Viktor Troicki (6-1, 6-1). “I started very well. I didn't make any mistakes and put pressure on him”.
China Open finishes on 16th September and is provided with $500.000 money prize. The winner will add 175 points for ATP 2007 Race.
