US OPEN: THE WINNERS

Federer and Henin consolidate themselves as the best players in the tour with the victory in New York.

It was about to happen. They won every match. They caught every prey untill they got the crown. World no.1 Justine Henin-Hardene played in an impecable way, beating Svetlana Kuznetsova as if she was a beginner (6-3, 6-1). It just took her one hour and 22 minutes.

The very pivotal challenge was to overcome the favourite Williams sisters, but Henin just did it without doubting. “I knew that Serena and Venus were going to be dangerous, especially Venus. I think she was the other big favorite”.

This title becomes her seventh Grand Slam trophy in her carrer. Only Serena overcomes her, with eight. “When I was a little girl, I was dreaming of winning just one Grand Slam in my career, and I won seven. It's still hard to believe that I did that”.

Wolrd no.1 Roger Federer was unbeatable and fabulous too. This victory means to the Helvetic his 12th Grand Slam title, and he is looking forward to breaking Pete Sampras record (he owns 14). “In the beginning I felt put under pressure about the situation because you don't win Slams just like that, it's just too tough. But to come so close already at my age is fantastic, and I really hope to break it.”

His quick and effective way of playing defeated the Serb Novak Djokovic (7-6, 7-6, 6-4), who was in his first Gran Slam final. “I was quite nervous, a lot of pressure... Obviously that was mistake because I just needed to calm down and wait for my chances, which I didn't. Anyway, it was an amazing experience for me”.
