SOPOT: ROBREDO WINS

Second seed Tommy Robredo let slip a 4-1 lead in the third set before steadying to defeat Polish wild card Lukasz Kubot 6-4, 5-7, 7-5 at Sopot

www.atptennis.com Second seed Tommy Robredo and rising star Steve Darcis set up a blockbuster second-round meeting in Sopot after gritty three-set wins on Tuesday.

Robredo served for the match at 6-4, 5-3 but lost four straight games and the second set. Robredo was 5-2 up in the third but Kubot leveled to 5-5. At 6-5 Robredo broke to love to win the match and book a meeting with Belgium's Darcis, the 23-year-old newly-crowned Amersfoort champion.

Robredo said: "It was tough. Lukasz is from here and wanted it so bad. I couldn't finish it off in the second set and he came back hard and then we had a fight in the third set. When you have the chance to win in two and go to a third set you have to be strong mentally to keep going."
