VERDASCO SNAPS FERRER

Left-handed Spaniard Fernando Verdasco snapped the six-match winning streak of defending champion David Ferrer to reach the quarterfinals of Stuttgart

www.atptennis.com Putting an impressive 84 percent of first serves into play, Verdasco defeated his fourth-seeded countryman 7-5, 6-3 to repeat his recent victory over Ferrer in the third round of Roland Garros.
Verdasco advanced to just his second ATP quarterfinal of the year and first since Las Vegas in late February.

Ferrer, who won last week's title in Bastad, was trying to defend an ATP title for the first time in his career.
Verdasco: " It was a really tough match from the beginning to the end. There were a lot of rallies and it was a really good match. I played very well. To beat him at Roland Garros gave me a lot of confidence for matches like this. I believed in myself and played very well. Maybe he was a little bit tired from last week but I did everything right.

"I was a little bit more consistent today and I also felt very good physically. I won a few more points than him in the key moments and I think that decides close matches like this."
