LONDON: OVERCOMING
Second seed Rafael Nadal rallied from two sets down to win a second consecutive match in five sets, this time defeating Mikhail Youzhny 4-6, 3-6, 6-1, 6-2, 6-2 to reach the Wimbledon quarterfinals
www.atptennis.com Nadal's tough Wimbledon campaign now gets even more difficult as he next meets Czech Tomas Berdych, who has a 3-2 head-to-head record against the Spaniard. Nadal's two victories over Berdych have both been on his favorite clay surface.
Berdych steadied after dropping a third-set tie-break against veteran Swede and 2006 semifinalist Jonas Bjorkman to win 6-4, 6-0, 6-7(6), 6-0. Seventh-seeded Berdych, who won the Halle title at the beginning of the grass season, fired 15 aces and won 84 percent of points on his first serve. He saved all three break points he faced en route to his first Grand Slam quarterfinal.
Bjorkman believes Berdych has a strong chance of advancing to the semifinals, saying: "He got a perfect game to beat Nadal. He's hitting the ball hard. He can hit winners from every position. Serves well. He beat him before, so I think he probably has a pretty good game plan."
