www.openseatbarcelona.com Robredo, who resides in Barcelona, won two titles in 2006 (Masters Series Hamburg and Bastad) but is yet to win a title in 2007. He reached the Auckland final in the first week of the year (losing to fellow Spaniard David Ferrer), but has failed to pass the quarterfinals in six subsequent tournament appearances. Last week he lost in the third round of Masters Series Monte-Carlo to Tomas Berdych. Carlos Moya, who won the Barcelona title in 2003 and also reached the final in 2001, did not face a break point in a confident 6-2, 6-4 win over fellow Spaniard Marcel Granollers-Pujol. The former World No. 1 dropped just four points on his first serve. He next plays countryman Felix Mantilla. Fourth seed David Nalbandian snapped his recent streak of slow starts, taking just 64 minutes to dismiss Spaniard Alberto Martin 6-2, 6-0. The Argentine, who saved the lone break point he faced, had dropped the first set in three of his past four victories heading into the Open Seat 2007. Russian Marat Safin, the 2000 Barcelona champion, played below his best in a surprise 6-4, 7-6(5) loss to Italian Simone Bolelli. Safin was unable to make a sustained impact on the Bolelli serve, earning just one break point (which he converted) throughout the match. The former ATP World No. 1 has not won a title since the Australian Open in January 2005. |
