www.atptennis.com Two-time Masters Series Monte-Carlo champion Juan Carlos Ferrero defeated Briton Tim Henman 7-5, 6-2 Monday to reach the second round, saving all three break points he faced. Max Mirnyi effected the first major upset of the tournament when he defeated 14th seed and former Australian Open finalist Marcos Baghdatis. Taking advantage of relatively fast conditions for clay, Mirnyi served and volleyed his way to a 7-5, 6-4 victory. David Nalbandian continued his 2007 trend of recovering from slow starts to reel in Italian qualifier Federico Luzzi 3-6, 6-2, 6-1. On Tuesday, ATP World No. 1 Roger Federer plays Italian qualifier Andreas Seppi, eighth seed Andy Murray plays Marc Gicquel, and 11th seeded Frenchman Richard Gasquet faces Spaniard Fernando Verdasco. |
