Haas Wins 10th Career Title at Los Angeles
Germany\'s Tommy Haas captured his 10th career title Sunday at the Countrywide Classic in Los Angeles as the No.6 seed defeated Russia\'s Dmitry Tursunov 4-6, 7-5, 6-3 in two hours and four minutes

(www.atptennis.com) The German fired 12 aces (against 10 for Tursunov) and won 85 percent of the points in his first serve. After losing the first set 6-4, Haas came strong in the second and played a very solid game at 5-5 to break the Russian. In the third set Haas raced out to a 3-0 lead and help serve three more times to defeated the Russian for the third time in his career (3-0). This was Haas\' third title of the season. The other two crowns came on American soil at Delray Beach in February (d. Malisse) and at Memphis later that month (d. Soderling). After slumping a bit following a wrist injury in April, Haas has won 13 of his last 17 matches. He won the title here in 2004 (d. Kiefer) and has a career record of 13-3 in Los Angeles. Tursunov was playing in the first final of his ATP career, following his third career semifinal. He reached a career-best INDESIT ATP Ranking of No. 31 last month and was No. 33 coming into this event. Tursunov has a career record of 4-2 in Los Angeles. |
