Nalbandian claimed the biggest win of his career, the MASTERS

The Argentine David Nalbandian won yesterday the Masters Cup after defeating in a hard final the Swiss Roger Federer for 6-7 (4-7), 6-7 (11-13), 6-2, 6-1, 7-6 (7-3).


Madrid, November 21st, 2005. Against all predictions, David Nalbandian was claimed yesterday champion of the Masters Cup after a spectacular final. He faced the number 1 of the world, the Swiss Roger Federer that had shown his good physical state during the entire tournament. After the two first sets, it seemed that everything was solved. Federer had won the two first sets in tie- break. Just then, Nalbandian awoke and was won the third, fourth and fifth and final set. It took more than four hours and a half of match in which both players showed their equality in the court playing their best tennis. Nalbandian finished with Feeder’s good gust of 36 consecutive victories. The Swiss had not lost since he did it against Nadal, in the semi-finals of Roland Garros.

Despite this defeat, Federer continues being the number 1 of the ranking, followed by Nadal, Roddick, Hewitt, Davydenko, Nalbandian and Agassi. All of them have now some months to recover and to get ready for the next season.
