Madrid, 19th of October, 2005 – The crowd has been present in the first two days, Monday and Tuesday, of the Masters Series Madrid’s main draw. Although the tournament has not been visited by as many spectators as in the qualifying rounds, the Madrid Arena has held three quarters of its capacity. Evening passes have shown, as they already did in previous years, with a great atmosphere. Monday, 6,441 people came to see Fernando Verdasco against Paul-Henri Mathieu. During the morning session, children’s presence made the number of spectators rise to 7,445, who were divided between the Madrid Arena and the court Pista Alcalá. On Tuesday, these figures were increased. During the morning session, 7,883 had bought a ticket to watch, amongst other, Carlos Moyá, David Ferrer or David Nalbandian. In the evening session, 7,843 spectators almost crowded the seats to watch two thrilling matches: Ferrero-Mirnyi and Verdasco-González. Figures of these first tournament days, together with the fact that tickets for Thursday, Friday and last weekend’s evening sessions have been sold out, make foresee that Masters Series Madrid will reach a record of total attendance, over 2003’s record, when 116,543 visitors came to see, among others, Juan Carlos Ferrero, world number 1 at that moment, throughout the nine tournament days. |
