The Madrid Arena recalls Julio Nieto

A commemorative inscription was given by Rafael Nadal to the family of the man who has been responsible for Masters Series Madrid’s ball boys and girls in the last three years.

Madrid, October 19th, 2005 – Masters Series Madrid has recalled today, before the 4 pm match, Julio Nieto, responsible for ball boys and girls in the last three tournaments (2002, 2003 and 2004) and who died on March this year.

Julio’s widow, Paqui, and their son and daughter, Jorge and Rebeca, received a commemorative inscription of the hands of Rafa Nadal, who then played a match against Victor Hanescu in the Madrid Arena. The event was attended by all ball girls, boys and referees, as well as the models of Masters Series Madrid, Manolo Santana, Pedro Muñoz and María Antonia Mata, president of Madrid’s Tennis Federation.

Julio Nieto’s life has been closely linked to tennis, his real passion. He used to be president of Madrid’s Referees Committee and Móstoles Tennis Club. He has worked as referee and as umpire for innumerable tennis tournaments and has trained many ball boys and girls in the last years. He was also in charge of training Hugo Boss models last year at Masters Series Madrid ’04.
