Blake, Massu, Monfils, Martin aim for Madrid Masters spot

James Blake and Nicolas Massu will be the main names in the qualifying draw of the Madrid Masters.


Madrid (dpa) - U.S. Open semi-finalist James Blake, Spain's Alberto Martin, Olympic gold medallist Nicolas Massu and French teenager Gael Monfils will hope for support in a public vote which could result in a place at the Madrid Masters starting October 17.

One from among the quartet will be put into the singles draw, pending an online vote from readers of the Spanish sports newspaper Marca. Runners-up will be able to compete in pre-event qualifying rounds.

Blake could be at a disadvantage after putting Spain's favourite Rafael Nadal out in the New York third round last month. The world number 34 American heads the field for qualifying rounds, followed by Swede Robin Soderling (41st), Belgium's Xavier
Malisse (43) and Argentine Juan Ignacio Chela (50).

Qualifying will be held October 15 and 16.
