A FIRST CLASS PRELIMINARY ROUND KICKS OFF
In the Mutua Madrileña Masters Madrid, the curtains will go up with the preliminaries - a “battle” for a place in the main part of a tournament that will take place until 19th October in the Casa de Campo trade fair park.

Madrid, 10th October. Fans in Madrid will once again see their old favourites such as Ivan Ljubicic, 2005 runner-up, or Roby Ginepri, semi-finalist that same year. Oddly enough, both players had the same “executioner”, the Majorcan, Rafael Nadal. In these preliminaries we will also have another former top-ten player, the Argentinean Guillermo Cañas, who three times reached the quarter-finals of Roland Garros, a round that the Frenchman, Julien Benneteau, also reached two years ego. The fight for a place in the final rounds of the Madrid tournament will also feature players who already have experienced victory this season. Some names stand out in particular, like Marcel Granollers and Marin Cilic, who won the tournaments in Houston and New Haven respectively. With regards to this year´s the Spanish Armada, and apart from Marcel Granollers’ presence, there will be five extra Spaniards: Carlos Gómez, who against Granollers, will have to play the first of many matches between compatriots; Pablo Andujar, Guillermo García López, Ivan Navarro and Oscar Burieza. |
