VICTORY NUMBER 400 FOR SAFIN

Safin gets being the eighth active player with that number of victories

Madrid, October 9th, 2008. The Russian player Marat Safin conquers his victory number 400 on the ATP circuit, achieved success in his hometown, Moscow, against the Israeli Noam Okun in three sets by 7-6, 3-6 and 6-4. The player who became number one needed just over two hours to get this achievement. Safin, winner of two Grand Slam, has not celebrated a title since his triumph in the Australia Open in 2005 and does not reach a final since two years ago, precisely in Moscow. In this year his best tournament, till now, has been Wimbledon, where he fell in semi-finals opposite Roger Federer.

Two of the players, Igor Andreev and Mikhail Youzhny, second and third seeded of the table male, were dismissed from the tournament in Moscow. Highlight the triumph of the French Chardy before Andreev. The French player had not passed, so far, no other first round in an ATP tournament. With this victory before Adreev by 3-6, 7-5 and 6-4 he is already in the quarter-finals. Now Chardy will face the winner of the match between American Robby Ginepri and Russian Igor Kunitsyn.

Frenchman Fabrice Santoro is also in the third round thanks to their victory before the Uzbek Denis Istomin by 6-2 and 6-4. Quarters will be measured on the winner of the clash between Israeli Dudi Sela and his compatriot Paul-Henri Mathieu. Other results were: the Russian Teimuraz Gabashvili won his compatriot Mikhail Youzhny 7-5, 4-6 and 7-6 (1) and will play against German Mischa Zverez, which surpassed his compatriot Denis Gremelmayr by 6-3 and 7-6 (7).
