ATP FIRST TOURNAMENT TO MONTAÑES

The Spanish player achieves imposed in the final in Amersfoort

Madrid, 21st of July, 2008. Albert Montañés beat the Belgian defeated Steve Darcis in the final of the tournament in Amersfoort, Netherlands, 1-6, 7-5 and 6-3 and conquest his first single ATP title of his career. Montañés, played his fifth ATP final, against the current champion of the tournament in 1 hour and 48 minutes.

The match began with the Spanish side for the loss of the first set, but in the second set began to confront Darcis and, after twice breaking the serve of his opponent, got on the scoreboard imposed by 7-5. The third set was well balanced, but the Catalan knew to expect his time and made the only effective ball before the break to kick Darcis. Montañés ended with a favorable 6-3, which gave him the title in Amersfoort, his first ATP individually, avenging defeats suffered in the finals of Bucharest (2001), Valencia (2004), Acapulco (2005) and Casablanca (2007).

In the southeastern of Europe, Fernando Verdasco also achieved the title in Umag, Croatia, having overcome in the final by the Russian Igor Andreev 3-6, 6-6 and 7-6 (4) in 2 hours and 51 minutes and gets his first title in 2008.
